My Stay in A Handpicked Hotel

Earlier on in the year I was very lucky to win a competition run by Amarula.  The prize was a one night stay in a Handpicked Hotel including dinner and breakfast.

I shortlisted several Handpicked Hotels from their collection and finally opted for Nutfield Priory and Spa.  I chose this hotel for several reasons.

  • An AA four silver star hotel
  • The hotel has a 2 AA Rosette Restaurant
  • There is a Health Club and Spa
  • The village of Nutfield is within walking distance
  • The hotel is set on Nutfield Ridge offering splendid views over the Surrey countryside

We arrived at Midday and left our case with reception and walked just over a mile into Nutfield village.  There is not much here but we found what we were looking for, a nice country pub for lunch.  The Queen’s Head had a most welcoming feel, and we had a lovely lite bite lunch washed down with a glass of Sauvignon blanc.

My surprise from Amarula in my room

Following lunch we walked back to the hotel and were able to check in.  Our room was amazing, so roomy and comfortable and had everything you might need, from tea, coffee and hot chocolate to a large t.v. and dvd player.  There was also the usual hairdryer, trouser press, and iron.  There was also a little surprise from Amarula, with whom I had one the competition, a bottle of their liqueur and two gorgeous cups and saucers.

To make the most of our stay we grabbed our robes and headed over the Health Club where we spent a couple of hours relaxing in the pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.  I found all of these areas to be clean and spacious – especially the changing rooms which can sometimes be a bit pokey and a bit of an afterthought.

After a most relaxing time in the Health Club we pulled ourselves away as we had to get ready for dinner which we were both looking forward to.

The hotel has several places where you can sit and relax and have a drink.  We chose to have a glass of wine in the bar before our dinner.  Whilst enjoying our wine (Sauvignon blanc again!) we were able to make our meal and wine choices.  We were shown to our table in the Cloisters Restaurant which had been prepared with our wine and water.  The Cloisters restaurant offers fantastic views over the surrey countryside.  It was still light when we sat down but by the time we had finished the sun had set and you could see the bright lights of Gatwick airport in the distance.  The presentation on all of our courses was amazing and the dishes tasted as good as they looked.  A special mention must also go to the waiters and waitresses who so attentive but working in a way that you hardly knew they were there.

Breakfast the following morning was also in the Cloisters Restaurant and was the same standard.  There were so many choices in respect of juice, milk, cereals etc and I don’t think even a fussy eater would be disappointed.  You could have a cooked breakfast which was made to order and tea and coffee and toast was served at your table.  Again the staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble.

Following breakfast we checked out and headed back over to the Health Club for our spa treatments.  Both the spa area and treatments are of a very high standard and compliment the Health Club and Hotel very well.

I left Nutfield Priory and Spa feeling very relaxed and pampered and will definitely be returning, hopefully sometime to soon.

A big thank you to Amarula for an amazing competition win and a big thank you to Handpicked Hotels Nutfield Priory & Spa for such a relaxing and pleasant stay.
